Our church is a part of a very young community on the near southwest side of Chicago, located in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. Many people have grown up in this area, have moved on, and now live an ethic of service, justice and care for others wherever they go.
It is not an easy place to grow up, but our parish has a tremendous responsibility to nurture and accompany the dignity and welfare of each person. Working with several neighborhood agencies, the parish is gearing up for several campaigns during the coming weeks, including the counting of the neighborhood people through the U.S. Census. This effort is seen as critical to bringing much needed resources to the neighborhood, especially as the neighborhood continues to suffer from the economic depression. We are inviting our people to stand up and be counted!
Kid's Café is preparing to celebrate it's 9th brithday! Approximately 100 children visit the Café daily, after school. Many are involved in a tutoring program which stresses staying health through study, proper eating and recreation. Thanks to Kid's Café many children stay safe and can dream of a future filled with possibilties.
