Casa Romero // Computer Lab // P&E Scholarship Fund

Thanks to the City of Chicago Department of Family and Support Services, and once again the State of Illinois (Teen REACH) along with other supporters, the out-of-school program is open weekdays during the school year from 3-7 pm, and during the summer from 12 noon - 4 pm. The activities are centered at Casa Romero, one of the parish buildings.

100 children and youth grades 1-12 are divided into 10 age appropriate groups directed by a young adult group leader. Each day's activities include mentoring, academic assistance, and recreation, along with the teaching and reinforcement of Life Skills.

Each group works to support the students’ development through age-appropriate activities. Some highlights include:

- Cultural awareness activities related to holidays and seasons such as the Day of the Dead in November, Posadas in December, or Dr.
Martin Luther King Day in January.
- Life skills each year cycle through Nutrition and Fitness, the Boys Town Social Skills, career exploration, and the Second Step Violence Prevention curriculum.
- Computer Skills include web-based research, math games, and Hooked on Phonics.
- Regular family themed-events such as Fun with Art, International Night, and Awards Night.

Staff and program participants are preparing the end of SUMMER CAMP IMAGINATION celebration on Friday, August 27.  Registrations for the school year program take place on Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday, August 30-September 1, 5 pm, at Casa Romero.
