The Children’s Choir, now with 45 members grades 1-10,meets every Friday at 5 pm to practice in Holy Cross Church. The group sings, accompanied by the Marimba Ensemble, every Sunday at the 10:30 am mass in Holy Cross Church, at 46th and Hermitage.
The Choir is led by and Jazmin Panfilo, a veteran choir director who has been leading the choir since her late High School days, and Daisy Vega, a young leader in the choir that like Jazmin, went from a singer to a leader. The activities of the Children’s Choir are supported in part by the children’s parents, who prepare a monthly food sale after the mass, which, besides being a fundraiser for the parish youth program, offers a strong experience of community for families in the neighborhood. Periodically, the group is invited to perform at events outside the parish.
The Children’s Choir and Marimba Ensemble regularly perform for the noontime City Hall Holiday Series, the Museum of Science and Industry’s Christmas Around the World and Holiday of Lights, and for Midway Airport for the busy holiday travelers.
