Visual arts are a tremendous means for self-expression. Many opportunities arise in our youth program through participation in mentoring and other After-School activities on a regular basis. One of the most durable and visible expressions of our youth’s creativity lies in the development of murals. Some are more short-term. For instance, many of our After-School program rooms at Casa Romero develop a new mural each year, based on the interests of the children and youth belonging to the room. Others last longer.
Through the support of the Peace and Education Coalition CAGI grant (Comprehensive Anti-Gang Initiative) Claretian Brother Manuel Benavides leads a group learning techniques in Mosaic and Stained Glass, followed by the design and completion of a project. This workshop experience is designed for youth ages 14-18.
