This weekend we had a wonderful event coordinated by the Dia De Los Muertos committee team. The events began on the weekend of Nov 1st as a walk through the Back of the Yards neighborhood, to view the many altars, created by community residents. After the procession, everyone was invited to pan dulce, snacks, and warm beverages. It was overwhelming to see how many people were involved in this event.
Immaculate Heart of Mary’s hall was filled with altars, Day of the Dead inspired artwork, music by Quinto Imperio, and community involvement. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible, whether you part of the committee, attended the walk, purchased a t-shirt for our kid’s meal program, painted a canvas, wrote a poem, sang a song, or created an altar. It was a wonderful day to remember our loved ones.
However, this event continued onto day two! November 2, to be exact. The day began bright and early as a 5K Run/Walk in special remembrance to the Casillas Family. This walk was also created to remember the deceased family members and friends of the community. Many of the runners & walkers ran proudly with their Day of the Dead t-shirts! I am happy to say that all of the T-Shirts were sold & all of the proceeds are going to the kid’s meal program!
We hope you enjoy some of the photos below!
