Activities in recreation and fitness are closely linked to our three main program areas: Educational Supports, the Arts, and Mentoring, since youth development includes the whole person. We want to promote health in mind, spirit, and body. Therefore, many of the recreational activities are open primarily to participants in these areas.

However, the Youth Program does sponsor open events. Most are run by the parish Youth Council, which regularly sponsors sports tournaments during Winter, Spring, and Summer school vacations. In addition, we do link to larger efforts, such as the Junior Olympics sponsored by the U.S. Olympic Committee to support local physical fitness efforts and to promote the Olympic spirit.

The support of organizations such as the Chicago White Sox Charities also allow the program to sponsor broad fitness efforts, such as the Summer and Fall Run/Walks, and several sports tournaments throughout the year. The Sox very generously invite youth participants to games during the season — GO SOX!

In May, we will host a “Pitch, Hit, and Run” event at Davis Square Park, sponsored by Major League Baseball and Aquafina. This event will kick off our spring and summer sports events, games and other activities, sponsored by the Youth Council and Youth Mentors (and the Chicago White Sox!)
